Law Enforcement Officers


Ordinary Security - Guards / Flaggers
Licensing Licensed as active law enforcement officer. No state accepted standards or licensing.
Training Rigid law enforcement academy completion. Take enforcement action immediately. Minimally trained only to observe a crime, then call 911.
Crime Deterrent Powerful, visible deterrence. Awareness of local crimers providing valuable information to client. Criminals respect and fear the power of law enforcement. Not respected by criminals who know they are unlikely to take action.
Traffic Control Trained in traffic and pedestrian control including lawful use of law enforcement vehicle with blue lights. DOT certified flagpersons legally authorized to direct traffic with amber/white lights only. 
Weapons Always armed and ready to respond with force, if necessary. Annual firearms training. Rarely armed. If armed, weapon training requirement is a brief six hour course. 
Empowered To Arrest, search and seize and enforce the law. Trained to respond with proper level of force, including non-life threatening and deadly. Observe and call 911. 
Access To Backup Constant radio contact with 911 dispatch and nearby patrols with the ability to call for backup instantly. Able only to call 911. 
Liability Exposure Constant training in handling people and situatons professionally. Reports generated by law enforcement for every incident to mitigate liability suits. In the presence of threat, lack of training and skills frequently result in costly errors. 
Professionalism Law enforcement officers adhere to the highest standards. Officers working off-duty are accountable for their actions, as if they are on duty for their agency. Minimal training, low pay and unaccountable to any official standards.
